Business Wire, Feb 27, 2008

BrightSign offers remote content delivery with its new networking feature, while remaining the industry's best low-cost, non-PC solid-state media player.

LAS VEGAS -- Today at the Digital Signage Expo, Roku announced its BrightSign plug-and-play networked digital sign solution. Targeted at mid-range signage deployments, BrightSign achieves the best price-performance levels in the industry. "By combining our innovative solid-state media players, industry standard web technologies, and Roku's Networked Sign Management software into a single integrated solution, BrightSign delivers unmatched reliability and robustness without complicated PCs," says Anthony Wood, Founder and CEO of Roku. BrightSign digital sign performance is maximized easily and inexpensively with networked content delivery to remote BrightSign units from a central, secure web server.

VARs line up to drive Roku s digital signage
Brightsign vendor moves into UK and signs resellers to help drive sales during economic downturn

Flasma, Clarion Displays, Audionation and Lynden have signed up to spearhead UK sales for US digital signage control vendor Roku.

Pierre Gillet, vice president for European sales at Roku, said the four VARs will target a market expected to grow despite the downturn.

“We believe we can sell thousands of units a year [in the UK] because the digital signage market is exploding,” he said. “These products can go anywhere, such as in stores, petrol stations and travel agencies. “I do not know how many thousands of stores there are in the UK, but it is a significant number.”

Roku recently established a UK office in Cambridge and launched its BrightSign range of interactive solid-state media players, but will sell 100 per cent through the channel.

All-in-one systems simplify digital-signage solutions.

The Roku BrightSign solid-state media player for digital-sign applications supports standard- and high-definition video, stills, music, and interactivity. The standard-definition video solution supports resolution up to 1024×768, while the high-definition solution delivers MPEG video up to 1080i. A BrightSign unit may be operated by just inserting a removeable flash card and running video, audio, and stills using playlists. The unit has its own internal operating system that can be used to add interactive buttons, touchscreens, mice, and rollovers with BrightScript, a scripting language designed specifically for kiosks and digital-signage applications.
